Malcolm Construction has purchased a TA300 articulated hauler for use in its popular plant hire division.

With a customer, dealer and manufacturing relationship that goes back almost 20 years, Malcolm Construction once again called on Terex Trucks to provide a 28tonne hauler, this time for use within its plant hire division.

Adding to its existing fleet from Terex Trucks, the major group, which is Scotland’s largest haulage company and whose construction division has over 200 machines, put the 28-tonne capacity TA300 to the test as it offered its services alongside excavators at a windfarm project in South Lanarkshire.

Specified with scissor tailgates, flotation tyres and the Malcolm Group’s unique wrapped livery, the articulated dump truck was supplied by Terex Trucks’ UK dealer, TDL Equipment. The machine, which is now on the outskirts of Glasgow adding muscle to a landfill restoration project, showcased what 65 years of manufacturing know-how looks like when it got to work near the village of Lesmahagow for the development which has received more than £8 million in funding and could power up to 300 homes.

Speaking about the sale, Lyle Sibbald, regional sales manager at TDL Equipment, said: “Malcolm Construction is a long-term customer of TDL. I think one of the reasons they like Terex Trucks is due to the very reliable, high performing machines. Another is because they’re a Scotland-based firm and in close proximity to the Motherwell factory.

“Malcolm was looking at other brands but knew that they wouldn’t get the bespoke service and the great support from any other company due to the great customer-dealer- manufacturer relationship they have with TDL and Terex Trucks.”

Malcolm Construction’s TA300 was also the centrepiece of SCOTPLANT 2016 (April 22 – 23) as it featured on Terex Trucks’ stand at Royal Highland Centre in Edinburgh.

At the sunny two-day event, Terex Trucks partnered with TDL Equipment and drew in crowds thanks to the distinctive design of the articulated hauler, which was accompanied by its big cousin the TR100 rigid dump truck. The 91tonne machine proved to be extremely popular with visitors at the exhibition with many queuing up for a photo opportunity.

“SCOTPLANT was a very busy show and great for Terex Trucks,” said Sibbald. “It’s rare to have a show in your home country where the trucks are made, and I believe that was a great element of it.

“It was fantastic to show visitors some of the investments we are making – heralding a new era for Terex Trucks. TDL were proud to showcase such impressive trucks that are produced on their doorstep as it’s true Scottish manufacturing.”
