Thamesport Cement has applied to build and operate a major cement manufacturing plant on the Isle of Grain in Kent, UK.

The company submitted a planning application to Medway Council in February which identified a suitable area for the plant on the London Thamesport Container Port facility on the Isle of Grain at the mouth of the River Medway.

Thamesport Cement is backed by Cem’In’Eu, a French startup that describes itself as “the first European network of regional modular cement plants”.

In the planning application, Thamesport Cement states that the cement products it intends to produce at the plant result from a fine and homogeneous grinding of several mineral raw materials – cement clinker, gypsum and limestone. The
raw materials would be ground into a fine powder in rotating horizontal grinding mills at ambient temperature to produce cement. The finished products would then be stored in silos prior to despatch by bulk tanker or bagged and on an
articulated trailer.

Cem’In’Eu has already launched other seven cement plant projects, six in France and one in Poland. It says each plant requires an investment of around €20m.
