A major player in the provision of a range of construction industry services is celebrating its 140th anniversary by buying 14 new vehicles, one for each decade of its history. A major player in the provision of a range of construction industry services is celebrating its 140th anniversary by buying 14 new vehicles, one for each decade of its history.

The family-run Tudor Griffiths Group, based in Ellesmere, County Shropshire, England, covers five generations, and started when William Griffiths set out on this journey. Now, 140 years on the company he founded employs more than 250 people in mainly rural areas and delivers an annual turnover in excess of £35 million (€44 million), working across the English/Welsh border in Counties Shropshire, Cheshire, Worcestershire and Mid and North Wales. It has a dozen ready mixed concrete plants; two sand and gravel quarries; a sea dredged sand operation; seven builders merchants’ branch outlets as well as recycling facilities and skip hire.

TG Concrete & Aggregates is one of the largest family-owned RMC suppliers in the UK, and is also sand and gravel suppliers, using aggregates taken from quarries in both Counties Shropshire and Gwynedd (Wales). These are added to with supplies of their own sea-dredged sand.

TG Builders Merchants, TG Waste Services and TG Electrical Services complete the construction industry services portfolio, although TG Holidays, which also forms part of the group, offers apartments, caravan and tenting pitches, and boat or caravan storage at its facility beside the beautiful village of Abersoch in North Wales.

Tudor Griffiths, group managing director and fifth generation of the Griffiths family, said: “When we budgeted for the year ahead, and analysed our requirements, it simply happened that we would need to acquire 14 vehicles. Our founder William Griffiths would surely be astonished though by the way we’ve grown, while remaining true to the standards he first set”.

Griffiths confirms that the company still seeks long-term relationships, gains largely from business referrals from current customers, and a dedication to operate in an environmentally-friendly way.

“If it was a good way to do business five generations ago, it remains the same today and, hopefully, for another 140 years.”
