As the world's largest cement exporter, Turkey is critical to global cement decarbonisation efforts.

As such, the CarbonZero Global Conference and Exhibition 2024 in Madrid, Spain (10-11 October) will see Abdulhamit Akçay give a comprehensive overview of the Turkish cement sector and how it can support the big worldwide cement decarbonisation agenda.

Akçay has been with Nuh Cement for the last 19 years and has served as the company’s international sales and marketing and port director since 2014.

While playing an important role in the development of Turkish cement exports to the world market over the last two decades, Akçay also served on the supervisory board of Turkish Cement from 2017 to 2021 and is currently the vice chairman of the board of Turkey’s Cement, Glass, Ceramics, and Soil Products Exporters’ Association.

Turkish Cement is a semi-governmental association representing cement producers and exporters in Turkey. It is the only association gathering exporters and is an affiliated institution of the Ministry of Trade. Turkish cement and clinker are its main product groups. The association’s main goal is to raise Turkish cement’s image and awareness and support sustainable development.

With the European Green Deal, Turkish Cement, whose members employ a combined 19,000 people, is working on a green business model and setting out on its environmental journey to become a climate-neutral industry by 2050.

At the CarbonZero Global Conference and Exhibition 2024, companies and strategies that aim for green alternatives in Cement and Construction, from alternative fuels to using alternative raw materials or clinker alternatives, will give new life to old resources. Today’s waste turns into tomorrow’s raw material. CCU, Finance, Innovation, and Technology panel discussions will be included in the event programme.

Some of the other speakers at the event are:

Marta Diez, country manager (Spain/Portugal & Italy) Environmental Markets Consultant, Redshaw Advisors: The Effect of CBAM on the Cement Industry
