Vicat has revealed that its 2011 turnover rose by 12.5% to €2.26billion, compared to the previous 12 months.

The company says the increase is largely due to activity in emerging markets. Net profit dropped 20% to €164million due, according to the French firm, to the revolution in Egypt, which is one of the largest markets for cement worldwide.
Vicat has 248 concrete production sites, 15 cement sites, 76 quarries and aggregate sites and five grinding sites. Some 7,000 people work for the company with 4,550 employees outside France in the US, Senegal, Egypt, Switzerland, Italy, Mauritania, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Mali and India.
A slight drop in sales in 2012 is expected by Vicat, but it anticipates a favourable price environment. It also has high expectations for its activities in India, with a new production unit in Sagar and higher activity levels for Bharathi Cement.
