Finning customers across the UK & Ireland are said to have seen gains in fuel efficiency of up to 47% and a reduction in idle time by up to 50% over the past two years, thanks to VisionLink.

Building on more than a decade of condition monitoring insights, the latest iteration of VisionLink – launched in August 2023 – marks the first platform of its kind to be developed solely by Caterpillar. Its 100 years of expertise inform the insights that increase efficiencies for its users.

Over the past two years, VisionLink has helped Finning customers gain complete visibility of their assets and operations through condition, location, and service history monitoring, as well as remote diagnostics. Additionally, VisionLink reports on idle time and fuel burn rates to highlight cost-saving opportunities and reduce carbon emissions.

Becky Wallis, Digital Applications and Support Manager at Finning UK & Ireland, said: “Over the past two years, we have seen significant benefits to our customers thanks to the insights that VisionLink provides.

“In particular, we have seen numerous cases where idle time has been greatly reduced. Thanks to daily data reports, machine owners are able to identify where assets are sitting idle, with VisionLink highlighting any trends in idle time to allow owners to address this with operators.

“Recently, we have seen some customers achieve impressive reductions in idle time from 60% to 40%, with others able to make a 50% saving, reducing their idle time from 40% to 20%. Not only has this impacted on cost savings, but it has reduced fuel burn and CO2 emissions, as well as extended the maintenance intervals and service life of the machine.”

VisionLink is available for owners with one machine or large companies with an entire fleet and is available as a mobile app to provide ease of access to daily insights and data.

Becky said: “The benefits of VisionLink to our large machine and fleet owners include access to condition monitoring, where machine fault codes are highlighted by VisionLink. This allows our team of dedicated condition monitoring engineers to create advisory and diagnostics, with field service engineers being deployed with all the relevant information and parts to enhance the opportunity for a first-time fix and reduce costly downtime.

“However, over the past two years, we have seen measurable benefits to smaller machine owners that include cost savings through reduced idle time and gains on fuel efficiency of up to 47%. We have also seen that smaller businesses have been able to enhance their machine resale value thanks to VisionLink insights, which help keep the machine at the top of its game, ensuring it retains its value and extends its service life.”

With sustainability targets increasingly becoming a priority for even small businesses, VisionLink’s insights can play a part in cutting emissions by helping owner operators optimise their operations, reducing idle time, fuel burn and ensuring machines are properly maintained.

Continuous developments in VisionLink technology mean customers will continue to benefit from its insights, with the backing from the experts at Finning who monitor the system to provide proactive service and customer support.
