Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) has confirmed plans for a strategic investment in its global crawler excavator production.
The investment will be made in three global Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) sites, aiming to match customer demand and mitigate supply chain risks through localised production.
Volvo CE has selected its three main production sites in South Korea, Sweden and North America for the investment. The largest share of the investment will be directed to the Changwon factory in South Korea, with the total investment reaching 2,500 MSEK.
The plans for the Changwon site in South Korea will secure and enhance Volvo CE’s volumes and capabilities in Asia. The Sweden location will be announced later in 2025 alongside the scope and timing of the works. The North American works will include the installation of an excavator assembly line at Shippensburg, USA. This will strengthen Volvo CE’s presence in the key North American market.
Volvo CE’s Melker Jernberg said the initiative will deliver shorter delivery times and tailored solutions for regional needs. It will also help Volvo CE manage any future economic and regulatory challenges.
“We understand the need to respond to growing demand and are excited to expand our facilities to serve customers better,” he said.
“This investment underscores our commitment to quality, innovation and competence, allowing us to deliver even greater value. This expansion demonstrates our efforts to respond to customer demand by investing in our crawler excavator business closer to key markets and customers.”
