Since their launch in 2014, the L110H and L120H wheel loaders have been the mainstay of Volvo CE’s medium-sized wheel loader line-up. With a range of attachments for different applications including 3.0-3.6m³ rehandling buckets, their productivity and ease of maintenance – not to mention operator comfort – it’s no surprise that more than 13,000 units have been sold over the last decade.
But even the best machines need to move with the times, and so the L110H and L120H have been given a comprehensive makeover that focuses on increased uptime and convenience – for both operators and technicians.
Regeneration on-the-go
The highlight of the upgrade is the addition of a new Volvo engine. Unlike its predecessor, the new engine automatically regenerates while working, a technology that has been tested on the company’s larger wheel loaders and means there is no need to stop and park up.
The engine also features a new electric pump for priming the fuel system, making the process quicker and more convenient than with the former manual pump. And when the fuel gets to the engine, the operator can be confident that it is clean thanks to new captive fuel filters. These not only ensure good water separation, but they also help extend the engine service intervals to an impressive 1,000 hours.
Upgraded electrics
Designed to make operators’ lives easier, both wheel loaders feature an all-new ignition strategy. Just like Volvo articulated haulers, the ignition key now activates and powers the machines, with no need to turn on the ground-level Main Switch at the start of every shift before climbing into the cab.
First introduced on Volvo CE’s L60H, L70H, L90H and L350H wheel loader models, feedback from operators has been overwhelmingly positive. Aside from the convenience for operators on start-up and shutdown, this approach also removes the risk of the Main Switch being left on, causing the battery to run flat overnight.
But it is not just the operators who benefit from this new ignition strategy. A new feature, lockout-tagout – or LOTO – is also being introduced as standard on the L110H and L120H. This makes it easier to lock the battery disconnect switch in the OFF position to prevent any unwelcome energy release when maintenance work is carried out.
The long-serving L110H and L120H still enjoy all the other features and benefits that have made them so popular over the last decade. Productive and built with the operator and technician in mind, this package of upgrades is set to make them even better.
