Volvo Penta’s D8 8-litre diesel engine with aftertreatment system is the next model in its EU Stage V range. It is part of the full spectrum of Stage V - D5, D8, D11, D13 and D16 engines - offering a power range from 105 to 565kW. The D8 off-road industrial diesel engine has a power output of up to 235kW. The Stage V version of this engine, TAD880-883VE, is compact and has a perfectly matched exhaust aftertreatment system

Volvo Penta’s D8 8-litre diesel engine with aftertreatment system is the next model in its EU Stage V range. It is part of the full spectrum of Stage V – D5, D8, D11, D13 and D16 engines – offering a power range from 105 to 565kW.

The D8 off-road industrial diesel engine has a power output of up to 235kW. The Stage V version of this engine, TAD880-883VE, is compact and has a perfectly matched exhaust aftertreatment system, to meet new EU Stage V emissions regulations. It is said to have been developed for the future needs of customers, offering world class fuel efficiency with maximised uptime via the optimised regeneration strategy.

The new D8 Stage V engine is powerful and reliable and has been equipped with a fixed geometry turbo which contributes to reduced complexity. It achieves excellent fuel economy thanks to its efficient common rail injection.

An air inlet throttle, together with an uncooled exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), and the electrical exhaust pressure governor (EPG) deliver highly effective heat management of the D8 engine. This enables the system to function without the need to inject fuel into the exhaust stream to raise the temperature.

With this approach, the exhaust gas has an optimal temperature when it passes through the exhaust aftertreatment system (EATS). Low heat rejection from the complete system means that less cooling is required.

The new engine and complementary exhaust aftertreatment system (EATS) is said to work in harmony to comply with forthcoming EU Stage V emissions standards.

The EATS system includes: a Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC); Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF); Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF)/AdBlue injection; Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR); and Ammonia Slip Catalyst (ASC).
