Two new A45G haulers from Volvo Construction Equipment are working at a major new aggregates plant in Gimhae, South Korea, where the local area’s fast-growing industrial landscape means demand for building materials is on the up.
One of South Korea’s biggest aggregate producers, Kyung Boo Corporation Inc., has built a new crusher plant in Gimhae, a fast-growing city in the country’s South Gyeongsang province. Opened on 31 October, the plant is the biggest in South Gyeongsang province and a newly-arrived pair of A45G articulated haulers from Volvo CE is playing a central role in operations.
With a rated load capacity of 45tonnes, the A45G models are the second largest in the Volvo hauler line and also boast the leading-edge technology of the company’s latest G-Series design. Park Sa-Ik, CEO of Kyung Boo Corporation (pictured above), said his company invested in the new units to ensure the plant will meet its ambitious production targets.
“We had to expand our aggregate production capabilities to keep up with demand for building materials for the ongoing development of industrial complexes here,” he said. “With this new crusher plant being the biggest in Korea, it requires larger haulers to maximise productivity and efficiency. So we decided to upgrade our older and smaller Volvo haulers and invest in our biggest units to date.”
The A45G is designed for higher productivity yet offers reduced overall fuel consumption, so customers can move more for less. Technology on the machines includes the optional on-board weighing system, which boosts fuel efficiency and reduces machine wear by guaranteeing an optimal load every cycle. Other features include the Volvo drivetrain, automatic traction control with 100% differential locks, all-terrain bogie and hydro-mechanical steering. Together these help the A45G deliver unbeatable off-road performance.
The units are the latest Volvos to arrive at long-time customer Kyung Boo Corporation. The company was established in 1986 and purchased its first Volvo shortly after – an A30C which was the first of its kind in South Korea.
“Since the earliest days of our business, we have always chosen Volvo,” notes Park. “When we bought the A30C its reliability stood out and that has influenced our decision to stick with the brand.”
In addition to several articulated haulers, Kyung Boo’s fleet of 15 Volvo machines includes the heavyweight EC750D excavator. This 75-tonne rated unit works well alongside the A45G units, helping to move more material in a shorter time.
And productivity and reliability aren’t the only features of Volvo CE machines that appeal to Kyung Boo Corporation. Volvo’s commitment to environmental care is a value that closely aligns with Kyung Boo’s own approach to business, as Park Sa-Ik explains.
“We firmly believe in the need for environmental conservation. Our construction waste recycling business is an extension of that, and so is our crusher plant, which we designed to have the lowest possible environmental impact,” he says. “Using Volvo machines underscores this belief, as their fuel efficiency and productivity minimises waste.”
Besides construction waste recycling and aggregates, Kyung Boo Corporation is also involved in gemstone extraction, general building and construction.
