Demand for a mobile vertical shaft impact (VSI) crusher in Sweden has driven one quarry operator to customise equipment themselves. Swedish dealer Tesab Atervinning has delivered two Pilot Crushtec Twister AC210 VSIs for exactly this purpose.
“The AC210 crushers are usually supplied on a skid frame, complete ready-to-run, but the customer is going to mount it on wheels, together with a hopper, a screen and on-board conveyors to turn it into a complete mobile unit for use in its quarries,” said Tesab Atervinning managing director Thorbjörn Jonsson.
According to Jonsson, the customer was willing to go to such lengths because the VSI’s autogenous action of rock-on-rock crushing creates well shaped cubic aggregates. “If the speed of the rotor is set fairly low – at about 1100 rpm – the quality of the stones produced is very high and there is great demand for its use in higher grade asphalts,” said Jonsson.
The AC210 also produces artificial sand, much sought after in Sweden because of tough environmental legislation that limits the use of natural sand from places such as riverbeds. “Artificial sand can be produced much cheaper than when using natural material,” added Jonsson.
