The winner of the 2014 British Precast Creativity in Concrete Award is William Mitchell, a concrete sculptor and innovator.
Oragnisers British Precast say he has made a great contribution to the world of sculptural concrete for several decades and is well recognised for his use of colour and shape to create distinctive and unique art works throughout the UK and further afield.
He also developed a new carveable concrete, Faircrete, which can be best seen at Clifton Cathedral in the city of Bristol, south-west England, one of his many protected, listed commissions.
With repeated appearances on BBC Television’s Tomorrow’s World show; a well-received autobiography Self-Portrait – The Eyes Within; a profile in The Modernist magazine, and an upcoming Twentieth Century Society lecture in December, Mitchell is said to have confirmed his reputation as one of England’s most innovative contemporary artists.
