New wheeled loader range benefits Italian quarries

Some of the first quarries to benefit from Hitachi's new large wheeled loader range are those in Italy. Some of the first quarries to benefit from 6512 Hitachi's new large wheeled loader range are those in Italy. The ZW330, ZW370 and ZW550 models are the result of an alliance between, 3743 Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd. and TCM Corporation.

The first ZW370 in Italy was delivered by Italian Hitachi dealer SCAI to an aggregates quarry in May. Four companies operate at the site in Casal Selce outside Rome and all are owned by Gruppo Mezzanotte. It was founded in 1978 with three employees, including owner Maurizio Mezzanotte and son-in-law Pino Mangione. Today, the group employs 130 people at three quarries.

"The company tested and bought the ZW370, because the owner could see that it's a versatile machine - especially when considering factors such as speed, productivity and fuel consumption," said SCAI Rome sales manager Gianni Capuano.

With a five cubic-metre bucket capacity, the ZW370 loads articulated dump trucks with sand from a conveyor. It is then transported to on-site stockpiles. The wheel loader also loads smaller trucks, which transport the sand to customers within a 30km radius.

The 20ha quarry has three crushers and produces 9,000tonnes of aggregates per day in the following grades: 0-6mm; 6-18mm; 18-30mm; and 30 to 100mm. Up to 95% is used for concrete, the remainder is used for the production of asphalt.
