Crushing specialist 426 Hazemag & EPR's SB1350 impact roller crusher is transferring technology established in the mining industry to the aggregates market.

Hazemag & EPR general manager Martin Wetter said, "The technology has been used for some time by the coal industry but is now becoming accepted in the quarrying market. We have 19 machines working in the US and we are expecting demand to grow." The chain-driven conveyor has been designed to have regular flight bars and wings to ensure all the material passes into the crusher and is not retained on the conveyor.

The main benefit of the 750tonne per hour machine is the horizontal feed, which can be fed directly without the need for a hopper.

"If the rock being fed into the machine is too large and the crusher comes under high load, the PLC control motors will stop and reverse the conveyor," said Wetter. "Hopefully the reversal will turn the rock to allow it to pass into the 1.3 by 1.5m opening but if not, the motors will reverse several more times before shutting down. Unlike a hopper-fed impact crusher, the SB1350 can use gravity to remove the blockage and return to work quickly." Wetter also said that the equipment could be used for recycling applications.

The machine has hydraulic adjustment of the impact element, rather than relying on manual adjustment that can take several hours to complete.

In addition to quarrying and mining applications, two machines are currently being used on construction of the Gotthard base tunnel in Switzerland to crush material straight from the TBM.
