More than 700 guests assembled at 643 Cemex’s Castillejo cement plant in Toledo, Spain earlier this week to celebrate the site’s 100th anniversary. Guests included employees, retirees, children, grandparents, Cemex management, local government representatives and people from the local community.

“I want to say that our number one priority as a company is our employees, said Cemex Spain president Jaime Ruiz de Haro during the event. “Without them we would not be here celebrating this occasion. Nothing is more important for Cemex than keeping them safe as they perform their jobs.”

According to Ruiz de Haro, it is the constant development at the site which has enabled the company to reach this milestone. “The plant we see today looks nothing like the one inaugurated on February 9, 1911, although history tells us that even back then it was a top-level facility,” he said. “During these 100 years the technological advances of these installations have been impressive, especially during the past two decades.”
