This expansion of its electric truck fleet will contribute to Holcim’s 2030 goal of reducing its Scope 3 downstream transportation emissions per tonne of material transported by 24% compared to a 2020 baseline.

Miljan Gutovic, Region Head Europe at Holcim, said: “Holcim is advancing the transition to more sustainable and efficient transportation by decarbonising our operations’ logistics. We are excited to be partnering with Mercedes-Benz Trucks to electrify our fleet, accelerating our goal for 30% of our heavy-duty truck purchases or contracts to be zero-emission by 2030.”

Karin Rådström, CEO of Mercedes-Benz Trucks, said: “Holcim is one of Mercedes-Benz Trucks’ most important customers in the construction industry. We are very pleased that the company decided to use the eActros 600 in its transformation towards alternative drives. Our electric truck with the three-pointed star sets new standards in terms of efficiency.”

Holcim is transitioning to low-carbon mobility from the quarry to the lorry by adopting more sustainable and efficient transportation. Deploying electric fleets across its operations, from autonomous electric vehicles in its quarries to heavy-duty electric trucks to distribute its materials, Holcim aims for 30% of its heavy-duty truck purchases or contracts to be zero-emission by 2030.

The majority of the eActros 600 electric trucks will be used with silo trailers for the transportation of building materials. The high battery capacity of more than 600-kilowatt hours and a new, particularly efficient electric drive axle enables the e-truck to achieve a range of 500 kilometres without intermediate charging, which means the eActros 600 will be able to travel significantly more than 1,000 kilometres per day. The start of series production is planned for the end of 2024.
