Quarry operators can discover how to maximise the effectiveness of water quality monitoring, whilst also minimising cost, at this month’s ‘Lunch & Learn’ webinar from the UK-based 2904 Institute of Quarrying (IQ) Academy.
 
The webinar focuses on knowledge and innovation from 12.30pm-1pm on Thursday 29 August. Delivered by environmental specialist, Dr Craig Speed, the 30-minute online session counts towards valuable continuing professional development (CPD) for IQ members.
 
Dr Speed, associate director at Wardell Armstrong, has more than 15 years’ experience in water quality, water resources and the Water Framework Directive. He says: “Water quality monitoring is an essential part of quarrying. While cost is a very important driver in monitoring design and implementation, it must not be at the expense of quality and effectiveness. My webinar will discuss how to maximise the effectiveness of water quality monitoring, whilst also minimising cost.”
 
Dr Speed is a hydrogeochemist and hydrogeologist working for the 4366 Environment Agency, as well as a lecturer at Birmingham University. His expertise includes design, management and review of water quality monitoring, hydrochemical interpretation, knowledge of UK water legislation and detailed knowledge of the Water Framework Directive (WFD).
