The Korea Environmental Industry Technology Institute (KEITI) is set to develop and test NOx emission-reducing technologies like the selective none-catalytic reduction (SNCR) or selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technologies.

The ministry has predicted that the technologies can achieve a NOx emission reduction of 40,000 tons. According to the ministry, the local cement output sector generated just under a third of the country's NOx emissions in 2019 with the volume reaching 62,546 tons, ahead of local petrochemical manufacturers' emission volume of 19,569 tons but behind local power plants' emission volume of 68,324 tons. Among the nine local cement producers are Hanil Cement, Sungshin Cement and Ssangyong Cement Industrial.
