Cement consumption in Spain grew by an encouraging 5% in October 2014, compared with the year-ago period, to reach 1.037 million tonnes. And 4303 Oficemen, the Spanish cement manufacturers association, believe national cement consumption could grow by double figures in 2015. The October cement consumption figure and the upbeat forecast for 2015 is a big contrast to Spain’s cement consumption figure for the January 1 to October 31 period, when consumption fell 0.5%, putting the sector's figures at their lowest levels since the start of the global financial crisis in 2008. Despite the growth in October 2014, values of the rolling year are in the red, with a drop of 238,843 tonnes, 2.2% less. Oficemen has estimated that there will be a 1% fall in consumption for the whole of 2014. This would mark the seventh consecutive year-on-year fall.
