The newly-developed 55kW Hatz diesel engine 4H50TIC is among the TOP 10 of the GreenTec Awards 2015, one of Europe’s most prestigious environmental awards.

Development of the engine was funded because of its predicted and achieved goals by the Federal Ministry of Economy and Energy in Germany.

The engine is said to be the world's first industrial diesel engine that follows a consistent downsizing concept, and in a public online voting t until 11 January, 2015, it could be selected to the finals by visitors to the website 2External<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-16"?><dictionary />000oLinkExternalwww.greentec-awards.comVisit greentec awards page falsehttp://www.greentec-awards.com/greentec-awards.htmlfalsefalse%>. Among the three projects nominated for the final round, a jury will select the winner who will be announced 29 May, 2015 at a gala evening in Berlin.

Every year, the GreenTec Awards honour innovative products and projects that lead the way towards a more environmentally friendly future.

As part of the development of the new 4H50TIC the focus was on the environmental and economic sustainability and high energy efficiency throughout the entire production process through to the operation of the engine.

Its development followed a “ground-breaking downsizing concept” and with a weight of 173kg, the engine is said to be about 90kg lighter than the next competitor in its class.

The company says : “Based on reduced weight and increased efficiency, the following reductions can be achieved on every single engine: in the processing of raw material  476kWh and 160kg CO2; lower effort in production 302kWh und 169kg CO2, and fuel savings of 22.69litres/kWh and 6.075 kg CO2 (at approximately 800 hours/year).”
