The 2014 winner of the international Swedish Steel Prize is 3816 Belaz from Belarus, which was awarded the prize for its “innovative and new construction” for axle suspension and slewing bearings for the world’s largest dump truck.

“Belaz has boldly gone beyond the boundaries of what has earlier been considered possible using available technology,” says Gregoire Parenty, chairman of the jury and executive vice president and head of market development 7798 SSAB. Using high-strength steel, the dump truck manufacturer Belaz is said to have created the new dump truck, which is claimed to be capable of 20% higher payload capacity than conventional trucks, while minimising fuel consumption.
