Karsan Ramji & Sons, a Kenyan quarry operator, plans to build a cement plant with average daily output of 700tonnes and costing KES 428mn (€3.81 million/US$4.18 million) at Engashura.

The company is hoping to start building the factory in December 2015 and begin production in November 2016.

Karsan Ramji & Sons will produce cement from the plant by mixing gypsum and pozzolana from its quarries with imported clinker.

The company is operating three quarries in Nakuru, Kitengela and Kilifi, Kenya, where some 77% of the country’s cement market is said to be controlled by 7789 ARM Cement and 7705 East African Portland Cement Company (EAPCC).

Kenya's cement output rose by 16.4% from 5.05 million tonnes in 2013 to 5.88 million tonnes in 2014 after new companies entered the sector.
