643 Cemex has introduced its inclusive social and business programme portfolio in the Dominican Republic in order to improve access to housing, employment, construction and assisted self-construction activities, among other initiatives.

Global inclusive business manager Dulce Alejandre Mora has informed that the business developed the social responsibility programme due to the fact that there are 70 million people in Latin America who live in deplorable conditions and 11% have no titles to the land on which their homes are built, while 21% lack access to infrastructure and 12% live in houses built with poor materials.

The official has stated that Cemex's Patrimonio Hoy scheme provides affordable and comprehensive solutions for the construction and improvement of housing for low-income families by offering an interest-free savings and loans system for the purchase of building materials.

Some 662 people are involved in the programme in 2015, while there were 739 affiliates in 2014.

Another programme is Programa Integral de Autoconstruccion Asistida (PIAC), an assisted self-construction initiative involving collaboration between the public and private sectors in order to increase access to housing.

Additionally, its ConstruApoyo programme involves the provision of construction materials under a joint investment model.

Cemex has two divisions for these operations in the country, located in Santo Domingo Oeste and San Pedro de Macoris. These units have assisted 2,268 people in 228 between 2009 and 2015.
