Infravation, a European call for projects, has selected the Biorepavation road recycling project being developed by French company
The project aims to increase the recycling rate of roads, currently around 40%, to above 50% and even to reach 100%.
Eiffage is thus developing a plant-based asphalt made from pine derivatives as part of its Biophalt range, which mixes well with recycled asphalt and can even replace it, allowing a reduction in the use of aggregates.
The road will be tested at Ifsttar's facility in Nantes, France, with plans for it to be used as cycle paths, although Eiffage also wants to see it being used for roads.
