A new photography competition organised by the UK-based 2904 Institute of Quarrying (IQ) has been launched challenging people working in quarrying and related industries to grab their cameras and get snapping. The winning entries will be published in a special 2017 calendar to mark the IQ’s centenary.

This year’s competition is an open theme around the celebration of quarrying and what it brings to life for people working in the sector. Judges are inviting entries including wildlife, people, minerals, or unique and unexpected features and locations.

Phil James, IQ chief executive, said: “Next year is the one hundredth year of the IQ so we wanted to lay down a real challenge to our colleagues in the quarrying community to come up with some extra special images that represent what quarrying means to them.

“We’ll be previewing entries on our Facebook page so keep an eye out for yours. I’m sure we have plenty of aspiring David Baileys and Chris Packhams out there!”

The 12 best entries will feature in a special centenary calendar. Other top prizes include tickets to the first ever Royal Horticultural Show (RHS) at Chatsworth, Derbyshire next year, and IQ merchandise.

To enter, members are invited to like the IQ Facebook page and post images to it using the #QuarriesRock hashtag, or alternatively email them to 2Email<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-16"?><dictionary />000oLinkEmail[email protected]email [email protected]falsemailto:[email protected]truefalse%>

The closing date is midnight on Sunday 16th October 2016.
