Sandvik Mining and Rock Technology’s Quarry Academy will look at how to improve quarrying operations

460 Sandvik Mining and Rock Technology’s latest Quarry Academy will be held between the 15-17 November in San Antonio, Texas, USA, the 11th such event to be held in the country.

The three-day programme will look at how to improve quarrying operations, with industry experts and partners from Sandvik, 3740 Dyno Nobel, 3573 Volvo CE, South West Research Institute and Friedman Leak, joining Sandvik Mining and Rock Technology for what is already a “sell-out” event.

As well as addressing critical processes within the quarry, the academy will also focus on the relationship between each process.

Its success will see future Quarry Academy’s being held in North America, China, Europe and other parts of the world in the coming months.

Topics covered during Quarry Academy’s consist of Quarry and Mine Planning; Best in the Blast, Fragmentation Management; Mobile Crushing and Screening; Getting Control for Optimal Plant Performance, Advanced Crushing; Making The Right Stuff, Screening and Sizing, and Crushing and Screening Dos and Don’ts

In addition to the formal lecture programme other features include a wheel/load simulator and a drill simulator demonstration using a state-of-the-art drill simulators for instruction of operation techniques and response to actual field conditions.

The key note speaker will be astronaut Mike Mullane, who was selected as a mission specialist in 1978 in the first group of Space Shuttle astronauts.  He completed three space missions aboard the Shuttles Discovery (STS-41D) and Atlantis (STS-27 and 36).  

A site visit to Martin Marietta’s Medina rock and rail quarry will allow attendees to see how theory translates into practice when it comes to improving processes.
