395 Caterpillar has held a successful series of Quarry Days at its Malaga Demonstration and Learning Centre (MDLC) in Malaga, Spain, which were attended by customers from Europe and Russia.

During the event the company displayed its latest models as they would work in a quarry, and introduced the new 988K wheeled loader, which has an operating weight of 51tonnes and a bucket capacity of 6.4-7.5m³.

The seventh generation 988 wheeled loader is powered by a Tier 4 Final/Stage IV Cat C18 ACERT diesel engine, featuring selective catalytic reduction and delivering 362kW. The engine is said to deliver a 20% fuel efficiency benefit compared to the 988H, thanks in part to an ECO mode with on-demand throttle, auto idle and engine idle kickdown/auto resume system.
At the Quarry Days, presentations were made on fleet selection, ground engaging tools (GET)/buckets, machine efficiency and total cost of ownership.

These were followed by a production study in the on-site quarry (good quarry as opposed to average quarry) showing how considerable savings can be made by adjustments to loading and hauling operations and maintenance, including haul roads.
