Bardon Hill igneous rock quarry and Croft quarry in County Leicestershire, England, owned and operated by 1707 Aggregate Industries, are to benefit from the introduction of a total of nine new 395 Caterpillar machines from 3006 Finning after awarding load and haul contracts to plant specialist, Walters Plant hire.

The plant consists of six new Cat 777G trucks; a low-hours used Cat 992G wheeled loader and a Cat 336D excavator with a Cat hammer.

The fleet had to be in place to take over from the previous contractor to provide a seamless service to Aggregate Industries.

Having previously assisted Walters in installing a new Cat 390DL ME at sister quarry Croft, the logistics, training and support needed to meet the tight deadlines was key to the success of the transition.

“Walters, with the support of Finning [Caterpillar dealer] proved to be the combination we were looking for. They could meet our tight deadlines and reliably support our delivery of the 2.5million tonnes of output required in 2013,” says Gareth Stratford, Aggregate Industries works manager at Bardon Hill.

Huw Richards, director at Walters Plant Hire, says: “This was all about delivering rock to the crusher on the first day of the contract. We had to pull out all of the stops to get the equipment in place and even though we didn’t need to put in new equipment as part of the deal, we wanted to ensure that we started our new relationship with Aggregate Industries in a very positive way for both parties.”
