Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote, Africa's richest man, plans to spend €258.84 million building a new cement plant in Niger.

With a 1.5 million tonnes production capacity annually, the plant is part of a continent-wide drive to boost output by Africa's largest cement producer, which is looking for production of 55 million tonnes by 2016.

The realisation of the project is expected to create 6,000 to 7,000 jobs according to Dangote.

The plant will generfate its own electricity and surplus will be used to bolster Niger's currently unreliable power output.

Niger currently has one cement plant, built in 1964, with a capacity of 40,000tonnes, and construction work on another has yet to be completed.
