643 Cemex is supplying 150,000tonnes of cement for the construction and expansion of a four-lane, 50km stretch of highway that connects Cañas to Liberia in the Guanacaste province, a crucial route for Costa Rica’s Pacific Corridor. The project, which also includes 18 bridges, is expected to reach completion in 2015.

Guanacaste is the country’s largest province and a hub for tourism. This project is expected to have a strong effect on regional and national development as it helps to increase tourism and the country’s competitiveness in transportation infrastructure.

“We are very proud to be able to collaborate in projects that seek to have a significant impact on the growth and prosperity of Costa Rica,” says Roberto Pongutá, Cemex country manager in Costa Rica.

“By providing innovative world-class building solutions, we truly hope to help build a better future for the people of Costa Rica.”

Cemex’s Colorado de Abangares plant in Guanacaste is producing custom-made cement for the highway’s contractor, Constructora FCC. The cement is especially engineered to have higher resistance and is fortified with puzolana, reducing heat island effect and helping to avoid cracking by contraction.
