Two new Leaders in Development (LIDs) have started their one-year training at 6156 Cemex UK. The programme, started in 2013, is aimed at using young talent from within the business to create the next generation of business leaders.

Cecil Roberts and Callum McPhillips have been selected to take part in the programme, in which they will gain extensive and fundamental knowledge of the business and develop a multi-functional perspective. With this grounding it is hoped to create a mobile talent pool feeding into senior management positions of the future.

Cecil Roberts was a transport planner based at Cemex UK head office in Thorpe, County Surrey, England, and is a graduate of the University of Hertfordshire with a BSc Information Technology. He has been with Cemex for just over a year.

Callum McPhillips worked in the Planning Department for bulk cement in Rugby, County Warwickshire, England, and has been with the company for just under two years. He studied psychology at the University of Wales in Bangor.

Both have been assigned a mentor at senior level, plus a programme coordinator to help implement an individual development plan. Over 2014 they will spend time within each of the business areas including operations, strategic planning, human resources and procurement.

Last year’s graduates of the LID programme have now been promoted and taken up positions within the company. Richard Allen is taking up a new position of Business Manager for Housing; Scott Jones is the Commercial Haulage Capacity Manager and Tom Colley is working as a Project Manager within the Readymix Business in London.
