Myanmar quarrying company Long Life Aggregate Mining has recently taken delivery of its first Tiger DG700 Surface Top-hammer Drill Rig.

The DG700 was supplied by 460 Sandvik Construction’s authorised distributor in Myanmar, MSPM, and has been put to work boosting productivity as demand for high quality aggregates increases.

A longstanding Sandvik Construction customer, Long Life Aggregate Mining currently operates a range of Sandvik crushers and screening equipment which has been used to great effect producing high quality aggregates. This equipment comprises a CJ613 jaw crusher, CS440 screen and two CH440 cone crushers, said to have delivered impressive results since their acquisition. Based on its experience of this equipment, when it came to purchasing a surface top-hammer drill rig to further boost productivity the company again chose a Sandvik Construction model.

Choosing the right surface drill rig can be a tricky operation.  It is vital that the right piece of equipment is chosen to reflect the real needs of the customer, and to ensure that it is capable of delivering exactly what is required. To this end, Long Life Aggregate Mining was assisted throughout the process by Sandvik Construction’s authorised distributor in Myanmar, MSPM Ltd, which was able to provide expert advice helping to ensure that the company received a machine that would be able to meet its precise requirements.

Following site visits, meetings and discussions concerning what Life Long Aggregate Mining was seeking from its new drill rig, MSPM was able to identify that the firm required a hydraulic, self-propelled, self-contained, crawler based surface drilling rig, which could be easily maintained. Furthermore, the rig would need to offer substantial power and strength in order to provide a highly productive performance. This meant that the Sandvik Tiger DG700 was deemed the logical choice as it is said to be purpose designed to be productive, robust, high performing, yet easily supported.

Featuring a robust structure, a low centre of gravity and heavy-duty tracks with an efficient guide system, the Tiger DG700 rig offers excellent stability and top-class balance even in uneven terrain. These features make it ideal for operations in countries such as Myanmar. It is also equipped with a fixed boom, an efficient rod handling system, and tried and tested, patented, high performing Sandvik rock drills which provide continuous excellent rates of penetration.  In addition, the advanced rock drilling control system guarantees smooth collaring thereby improving the rock tools’ service life and delivering better quality holes, ensuring improved blasting results.

With its tailor-made user interface, the Tiger DG700 allows all drilling functions to be handled with a single joystick control. In addition to being ROPS and FOPS certified, the cabin is also soundproof, keeping the noise level well under the limit of 85dBA. Large windows offer an unobstructed view to the drilling spot, and the safety grid on the windshield protects operators from falling objects.

Further boosting its productivity, and making it ideal for Life Long Aggregates’ requirements, the DG700 is equipped with a 179kW TIER2 engine with a large 425litre fuel tank, which maximises drilling time. Six working lights are situated at the front of the machine, with two at the rear, thus guaranteeing efficient operation even during limited light. As with all Sandvik drill rigs, the new Tiger DG700 is also said to be designed with ease of maintenance in mind. All daily maintenance points are on the ground-level, and components are placed within easy reach. This was said to be a vital consideration in the choice of the drill rig, as daily maintenance will be undertaken at the quarry.

Sandvik describes the Tiger DG700 as a new, highly productive and user-friendly rig ideal for the requirements of businesses such as Long Life Aggregate Mining. It provides a well-proven technical solution that supplies top-rates of productivity and operator safety at economical initial investment levels. The entire Tiger series of rigs are designed for applications such as road cutting as well proving to be ideal for production drilling in medium-sized quarries such as found at Long Life Aggregate Mining’s in Myanmar.
