Earthmoving attachments manufacturer, 6850 Miller UK, has secured the top spot in the latest EY Manufacturers’ League in the North-East, where it was ranked number one for both efficiency and exports, and second in terms of turnover for quarter two this year.

The EY Manufacturers’ League, which was launched by Ernst and Young in 1995, aims to celebrate all that is great about manufacturing in the North-East.

Open to companies with manufacturing operations in the North East and with a turnover in excess of £1 million (€1.16 million), more than 100 businesses competed for a place at the top of the quarter two league.

Over the course of the last two years, Miller has implemented a major investment programme at its Cramlington factory, with new state-of-the-art equipment, including several new robots installed - to create a smarter, more efficient manufacturing operation.

The smart factory approach also enables Miller to meet the changing needs of the marketplace and process increasingly common requests for bespoke orders.

Miller has long supplied products on a global scale, but in the last few years it says oversees demand has significantly increased, especially in emerging markets, as well as in Australia and across Europe, with Miller’s products now being used on major infrastructure projects around the world.

Mike Askew, managing director at Miller, said: “It’s a great achievement to be top of the EY Manufacturers’ League for quarter two this year. We’ve worked hard and invested a lot into our manufacturing facilities over the last two years to make sure we’re able to continue to meet our customers’ needs both now and in the future.

“We were up against robust competition from our fellow North East companies so it’s testament to the hard work and dedication of all our staff who work hard to produce the quality, world-leading products on which our reputation depends.”
