Washing plant joins JPE operation

UK-based JPE Aggregates has recently taken delivery of a new washing plant from CDE following a successful trial at its Staffordshire quarry. UK-based JPE Aggregates has recently taken delivery of a new washing plant from CDE following a successful trial at its Staffordshire quarry

Efficient and cost effective washing of demolition materials in order to produce a high quality recycled aggregate was the main aim for 1525 JPE Aggregates when it came to specifying a new plant. But the company also wanted a solution that would offer a high capacity for its reprocessing work at Elford Quarry in Staffordshire, UK.

JPE looked at a number of different options and eventually selected CDE's M2500 E3 mobile washing plant after extensive trials of the plant. According to the company, the decision was based on securing a plant that would meet all of its cost, quality and quantity demands.

The Staffordshire-based quarry is one of the leading construction, demolition and excavation waste recycling companies in the region and specifying a new washing system was critical to JPE's growth.

Before selecting the plant, JPE managing director Steven Birch and technical director John Hale attended a two day open day organised by CDE in Ireland. The directors said that initially it was an interest in the logwasher technology offered by CDE that spurred the visit.

"With the recycling of construction and demolition waste material it is crucial the right attrition applied in order to achieve clean recycled aggregates that can subsequently command the highest commercial value," explained Birch. "It is also vital that the plant is sufficiently flexible in relation to the capacity of each individual piece of equipment to account for the wide variations in feed quality.

"Once we saw the CDE wash plant and the robustness of the AggMax in operation, we felt it offered the best solution to our immediate needs at Elford while also offering the flexibility to allow for future expansion of our activity in aggregates recovery." JPE's operations manager Dave Rogers then started to look at the options which CDE could offer and met with CDE's technical team to develop a solution for the site.

JPE's new system is centred around the M2500 E3 mobile washing plant and also features an AggMax 150R attrition system, AquaCycle A400 thickener and a VSI crusher.

The M2500 E3 system includes feeding, screening, sand washing and stockpiling on a single chassis. "One of the major issues with existing mobile washing plants is, ironically, their lack of mobility," explained CDE project manager Colum Bryson. "The combination of hydraulic tracks and large volumes of water mean that they are in effect static plants. We have addressed this with the M2500."

The AggMax system used for JPE features a RotoMax log washer to achieve the levels of attrition needed, while the Aquacycle allows up to 90% of the water to be recycled. Water recycling within the new recycling plant was crucial for JPE as the company sought to both minimise use of natural resources and make maximum use of the space available on site to accommodate the new washing plant

With the plant now fully operational at JPE's site, Birch is very pleased with the result. "The high quality products and efficient operation of the CDE plant can only help us to continue to grow and develop the business in the coming years," he said.
