Ireland-based 668 Terex Finlay has unveiled its latest cone crusher innovation with the C-1540RS, which is based on the C1540 machine but adds the benefits of a recirculation conveyor and three-deck screen. A spokesman for the company said that the new model is "effectively two machines in one".

The standard C-1540 crusher features a pre-screen to remove fine material before it enters the cone and prevent wear, but the RS model has a detachable screen with a recirculation conveyor to return over-sized material into the crusher. The screen box has a hydraulic system which enables it to be removed from the machine in five minutes so the unit can operate as a standard crusher with a separate screener or fit into a confined site more easily.

The 45.6tonne machine is built around a Terex 1000 cone unit and also features a metal detection system that automatically stops the machine before material reaches the crushing chamber.

Also new from Finlay is the J-1480, which in addition to being the largest jaw model in the range, is also the first to have a number of new design features such as plastic hatch covers with clear viewing windows and a curved shape and a more sweeping chassis shape. Terex Finlay product development manager Gordon Dunn said, "In recent years we have seen the design of loaders and haulers become more aesthetically pleasing and now it is the turn of crushers. Customers arrive on site in their cars and expect the same automotive quality from their on-site machines." The 69tonne machine has been designed to fit within a 3m transport width to ensure the 400tonne per hour machine can deliver high production with the option to be transported from site to site.

While the machine's testing has gone well, the company is looking at producing an alternative drive system to deliver higher fuel efficiency. The model on display has a hydrostatic drive which enables the system to be reversed in the case of a blockage but the potential for a direct belt drive is being considered.

Terex has revealed that it will be adding a larger C1550 cone crusher to its product range later in the year that will be based on the J1480 chassis.
